Turkish army targets Kurdish positions after PKK attacks

The Turkish military targeted Kurdish positions on Wednesday after the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) attacked Turkish military units in southeastern the country.
The PKK fired three mortar shells against the Turkish military units in Daglica town of Hakkari province, the Turkish General Staff (TSK) said in a statement.
The Turkish armed Forces responded to the attacks by firing howitzers and mortar shells against the PKK positions, the statement added.
The skirmishes came amid talks between the Turkish government and jailed leader of the PKK Abdullah Ocalan to end four-decade-old Kurdish insurgency.
On Saturday, Ocalan called on his PKK supporters to hold a congress to discuss laying down arms.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by Turkey as well as by the United States and the European Union.
The group has been fighting with the Turkish government for broader rights and autonomy, with 40,000 people got killed in the conflict.
