Turkish deputy PM: Turkey to take part in G-20 Troika

Turkey will take part in the three-member steering committee of G-20, "the G-20 Troika", as of Sunday for tree years, said Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan on Saturday. The role of the Troika is to ensure continuity in the G-20's work and management across host years. Releasing a written statement, Babacan said that Turkey would admit the presidency of G-20 as of December 1, 2013 and will host the "leaders summit" of G-20 in 2015. Babacan pointed out that Turkey will have the opportunity to directly steer the global economic agenda through the presidency of G-20 and the membership of "the G-20 Troika", which is the one of the most important international responsibilities for Turkey. "The presidency of G-20 will make a major contribution to introduce Turkey's changeover in the international area," said Babacan. Babacan said that Turkey would ideally discharge this responsibility, which has a major contribution to Turkey to play an important role in the global system within scope of the 2023 vision. The G-20 is the premier forum for international cooperation on the most important issues of the global economic and financial agenda. The G-20 members account for around 85 per cent of the world economy, 75 per cent of global trade, and two-thirds of the world’s population. The G-20 brings together finance ministers and central bank governors from 19 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States of America plus the European Union, which is represented by the President of the European Council and by Head of the European Central Bank.
