Ankara - Anadolu

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said "We do not let any countries or community of states patronize Turkey referring to the European Parliament's decision which urged Turkey to avoid violence. Davutoglu talked to the press in the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the decision of the European Parliament (EP) for the demonstration of Taksim Gezi Park. Turkish Foreign Minister underlined that "The peaceful protesters reached their goal as the process of dialogue and consultation was launched". "It is time to end Gezi Park protests and the youth, academicians, intellectuals and these with sincere intentions have the right paths to deliver this belief," said Davutoglu. "Once European Parliament notified Turkey about their resolution on the country, Turkey would send it back immediately," Davutoglu had said of a non-binding resolution the European Parliament adopted Thursday over Gezi Park protests that expressed concern over “the disproportionate and excessive use of force” by Turkish police. Davutoglu had underlined that the decision of the European parliament on Turkey was unacceptable, stressing that Turkey does not have to learn a lesson from a country or a group of countries. He also had highlighted that the EP decision was a clear example of double standards and added"It is time to end Gezi Park protests and the youth, academicians, intellectuals and these with sincere intentions have the right paths to deliver this belief." "European Parliament's resolution about the situation in our country bears a qualification of being far away from realities as well as trying to damage our common goal of strengthening and intensification of democracy. Therefore, we consider it null and void," the ministry said in a statement. Besides, the ministry said Turkey was a country that contributed to the international norms to develop democracy, law and human rights and it underlined that documents existed which confirmed that Turkey was an advanced democracy. "Turkey is undoubtedly an exemplary country for its neighbors in maintaining stability on the basis of democracy. As a founding member of the Council of Europe, progress in the recent years in democracy, rule of law and human rights is evident. Our government acts without leaving no room for doubt in protecting freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and freedom of demonstration," the statement said. "No country or bloc has the right to give advices to Turkey in this issue. The current incidents in Turkey are not different from the incidents which occurred in many European cities. The discussions in the case of Turkey are a sign of double standard."
