Turkish PM rules out Syria incursion

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has ruled out prospects for a Turkish military incursion into neighboring Syria, where, he said, military balances are shifting in favor of the opposition.

In remarks published on Saturday by "Today's Zaman" newspaper, Davutoğlu also said there was no new development between Saudi Arabia and Turkey regarding Syria, despite several reports suggesting that the two countries have been aligning their efforts to step up assistance to Syrian rebels fighting to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad.

“There is no new situation regarding Syria,” Davutoğlu told a group of journalists aboard a plane upon his return from election rallies in the eastern provinces of Bingöl and Elazığ on Friday.

Asked to comment on prospects for an incursion, Davutoğlu said claims to that effect were “speculative” and had no basis. “There is no situation at the moment that Turkey would get involved in,” he said.
