Ibrahim Ali Al-Nuaimi, is representing the UAE Embassy in Italy in the First Regular Session of the Executive Board of the World Food Programme, WFP, 2017, being held from 20th to 23rd February at the WFP headquarters in the Italian capital, Rome.
The speakers focussed on linking the issue of refugees with food insecurity and humanitarian crises, and the major repercussions posed by these issues. In a bid to address these, close co-operation between the WFP and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees would be required, they said.
The participants also stressed the need to strike a gender balance and eliminate hunger, as these two goals are among those listed in the UN’s Sustainable Development Plan 2030.
During the opening session, Anil Wadhwa, Indian Ambassador to Italy and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Organisations in Rome, was congratulated for his election as the new President of the WFP Executive Board Bureau. Wadhwa also thanked the outgoing president for her efforts.
