Ugandan police issues fresh alert after Kenya attack

The Ugandan police on Friday issued a fresh terror alert after an attack in neighboring Kenya that left over 148 people dead.
Gen. Kale Kayihura, Inspector General of Police told reporters here that they have intelligence information that Somali militant group Al Shabaab had plans to attack schools and education institutions along the Kampala – Jinja highway in central Uganda.
Kayihura instructed school administrators along the Jinja highway to activate standing school security committees immediately.
He also directed area Police Commanders to supervise and ensure that security committees are operating according to the security guidelines issued by the ministry of education.
Police said the terror alert covers the whole country because terrorists have unlimited targets.
"On this note therefore, the police discourages the public from entering venues that are not well secured. All proprietors of commercial areas, hotels, religious places, markets and taxi parks are reminded that failure to comply with the set guidelines will result into the closure of their business," Kayihura said.
He also directed traffic police to address the issue of traffic jam because jam posses a security risk especially during the Easter festive season.
"The police therefore encourage all Ugandans to be vigilant, practice neighborhood watch, and cooperate with the area police commanders to curb violent crimes and also to report to the nearest police station," he added.
Al Shabaab militants on Thursday attacked Garissa University in Kenya killing 148 students.
The militant group has vowed to continue attacking Uganda and Kenya for deploying their troops in Somalia.
The group in 2010 launched an attack in the Ugandan capital Kampala killing close to 80 people.
