UK journalists were held in Libya for Welsh, Hebrew Mix-up

Two British journalists were captured in Libya for three weeks by a local militia, suspected to be Israeli spies when Welsh writing on medical supplies with one of them was mistaken for Hebrew. Gareth Montgomery-Johnson and Nicholas Davies-Jones had been working for Iranian English-language channel Press TV, when the Misrata Brigade in Tripoli detained them on February 22. Speaking to BBC 5Live following their release, Montgomery-Johnson explained the circumstances of their detention, saying that he and Davies-Jones weren't given any information at all. "My father, who's a nurse, had given me some bandages in case we got into trouble. Some had Welsh written on and they thought this was Hebrew and we were Israeli spies," Montgomery-Johnson said. The two Britons were released on Monday and are now back in the UK.
