UK to temporarily resettle some Syrian refugees

The United Kingdom will temporarily resettle the "most vulnerable" Syrian refugees, British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said. According to BBC, Clegg said late Tuesday that girls and women who had been victims of or were at risk of sexual violence, torture victims, elderly and disa "This action is to ensure Britain's long and proud tradition of providing refuge," he said, adding that the British government wants to play its part in helping to alleviate the immense suffering in Syria. Clegg noted that the ?600m UK had provided makes it the second largest bilateral donor of humanitarian aid in the world. "But as the conflict continues to force millions of Syrians from their homes, we need to make sure we are doing everything we can," he said. The UK government, which faced criticism from MPs of all political parties for declining to participate in the UN-led scheme, expects the number of refugees accepted to be in the hundreds but has not set a specific target.
