UK welcomes UN condemnation of Syrian use of chemical weapons

The UK Government on Friday welcomed the UN Security Council resolution on chemical weapons use in Syria, saying that all evidence shows President Bashar al-Assad's regime responsible.
The Security Council today reinforced the finding by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons: that chemical weapons have been repeatedly and systematically used in Syria. This is in violation of previous Security Council resolutions, the Chemical Weapons Convention and Syria's previous commitment to the destruction of chemical weapons. This resolution shows the abhorrence the international community feels for these findings," UK Foreign office Minister for the Middle East Tobias Ellwood.
"These horrific acts are only the latest entry in an a long catalogue of outrageous abuses perpetrated by the Assad regime, including the calculated use of barrel bombs against civilians and the continuing use of food deprivation as a weapon of war," he added.
"The UK, together with our international partners, will remain committed to holding to account those responsible for these appalling acts," Ellwood concluded.
