
Ukraine considers Egypt a pivotal country in preserving peace in Africa and the Middle East, which suffered a lot from terrorist attacks over the past few years, Ukrainian Ambassador here Hennadii Latii said.
Both Egypt and Ukraine were elected as non-permanent members of the Security Council in October and they could both contribute to achieving international peace and security, the ambassador said at a ceremony Wednesday evening marking his country's National Day anniversary.
The diplomat described as strong relations between Cairo and Kiev in the political, economic and cultural domains.
He expressed solidarity with the Egyptian people in the face of terrorism and extremism, that are now jeopardizing global regime.
About bilateral cooperation, the diplomat said Egypt is Ukraine's biggest trade partner in the Middle and East and its largest wheat importer.
He added that his country plans to increase agricultural imports from Egypt within coming period, hoping the seventh session of joint governmental committee would take place in Kiev later this year.
He noted that this committee is an import tool in promoting cooperation between the two countries.
