UN chief backs possible lawsuit against Assad

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he was in favor of discussions on a possible lawsuit against the Syrian President Bashar Assad at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. In an interview to Austria’s Profil magazine, Ban added that “the massive violations of human rights” in Syria “may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. The UN chief also warned Western countries of the risk of delivering arms to the Syrian opposition, saying that it will only contribute to prolong the confrontation and inflict more casualties.
