UN chief praises young Muslims killed in north Carolina

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Friday praised three young Muslims killed in North Carolina as representing the best values of global citizenship.
Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha, and Razan Abu-Salha were gunned down Tuesday in Chapel Hill. All three of them were involved in humanitarian aid programs.
Police charged Craig Hicks with murder and said that initial findings indicate that a dispute over parking prompted the shooting. Still, they are looking into whether Hicks was motivated by hatred toward Muslims.
'At a time of troubling tensions stoked by those who seek to twist the teachings of faith and sow division, these three young people represented the best values of global citizenship and active community compassion to build a better world for all,' Stephane Dujarric, Ban's spokesman, told reporters.
Thousands of mourners attended funeral prayers for the victims on Thursday.
