UN chief to visit Turkey on Friday

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will pay a visit on Friday to the Syrian refugee camps in the Turkish territory during which he will meet Turkish officials to discuss the developments of the humanitarian crisis of displaced Syrians in neighboring countries. The Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Ban will visit the camps designated for displaced Syrian refugees and to get acquainted with their situation. The statement added that the visit comes at the invitation of the Turkish side to the Secretary General of the United Nations to see for himself the conditions of Syrian refugees in Turkey whose number stands at nearly 124,000. It pointed out that Ban Ki-moon will then have talks with President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the crisis in Syria and the repercussions of the continuing exodus of Syrian citizens to neighboring countries as fighting raged in the Syrian areas. Ban will conclude his visit to Turkey on Saturday by meeting Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
