
United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon underlined that the international organization supports Iraq in facing the terrorist groups, highlighting the efforts exerted by the Arab country in freeing its territories from the control of Daesh.
He further underscored the importance of respecting the rights of the Iraqis detained in the areas controlled by the extremist group.
The UN chief's remarks came during his meeting with the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Salim al Jabouri here on Monday.
Ban Ki-moon hailed the role played by the Iraqi parliament in backing the national reconciliation project which will lead to stability in Iraq, expressing happiness for the support offered by the Arab Summit to the country.
