Egyptian Foreign Ministry expressed its astonishment and condemnation over the statements of UN Middle East peace envoy Robert Serry which criticized other parties over the situation in the Palestinian territories.
"Serry is trying to blame others for his failure in his mission," said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Badr Abdel Aati.
The spokesman reiterated Egypt's support for the Palestinian cause and its total rejection of the Israeli eight-year blockade of the Gaza Strip.
He also highlighted the Egyptian role in ending the 50-day Israeli offensive on the enclave and its organization of the Gaza Reconstruction Conference with its international partners.
Abdel Aati reaffirmed Egypt's right to secure its borders and protect its people as essential acts of sovereignty which cannot be compromised.
He added that the UN envoy failed to meet his job responsibilities and was trying to blame other parties for that failure.
