UN official: Egypt should have leading role in region

A UN official said Egypt is an important country and should play a leading role in the region. "We hope the democratic transition will render successful," head of the Middle East and North Africa department at the UN High Commission for Human Rights Faraj Fneish told MENA on Tuesday. He said Egypt's democracy will be an example to be followed in the region. The UN official hailed Egypt's efforts in boosting the values of human rights in the country. "The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) has played an important role in the country in defending human rights values," Fneish said.
