The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon, has affirmed his support to the Darfur Donors Conference, due to be held in Doha next month. He also affirmed his support to Darfur Regional Authority and the African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). This came during his meeting Thursday at the UN Headquarters in New York with Dr. Al Tigani Al-Sessii, the Chairman of the Darfur Regional Authority, and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of Sudan representative to the UN, Ambassador Dafalla Al-Haj, and Sudan Charge d'Affairs and the UN Secretary General Assistant for Peace Keeping Operations. Member of the Authority's delegation and Minister of Infrastructure and Reconstruction of the authority, Taj-Eddin BashIr Niyam, said in a statement to SUNA that the Authority delegation has briefed the UN Secretary General on the ongoing efforts to complete implementation of the Doha Peace Document for Peace in Darfur, and the arrangements for holding the Donors Conference for Darfur. He said that Ban Ki-Moon has called for speeding up the implementation of the peace agreement affirming in the same time his support to the voluntary repatriation of the displaced persons to their home areas. He said that the UN Secretary General has called on the Regional Authority to facilitate the movement of the organizations in Darfur. Niyam pointed out that the delegation held a number of meetings in New York which included the Russian and Qatar missions in the UN. The delegation of the Darfur Regional Authority also held meetings with a number of US officials in Washington and New York and concluded their visit to the United States Thursday evening.
