UN Security Council to focus on Middle East issues in April

The UN Security Council will during April focus on Middle Eastern issues, including the Palestinian question, Syria and the role of youth in stopping violent extremism, said Dina Kawar, Jordanian ambassador to the United Nations, Thursday.
Kawar, whose country took over the council's rotating presidency for the month, is the first woman from an Arab country to hold the rotating post.
The council will discuss pressing Middle Eastern issues such the humanitarian and political situation in Syria and the proposals for a Security Council resolution on the Israeli-Palestinian question, dpa reported.
Jordan is also organizing an informal meeting for council members to discuss the protection of cultural heritage in the Arab region after the Islamic State extremist group has destroyed several archeological sites in the past months.
