UN upholds guilty verdict of Serbian official for Kosovo war crimes

The UN war crimes appeals tribunal on Monday upheld an earlier verdict that found former Serbian police general Vlastimir Djordjevic guilty of war crimes in Kosovo, dpa said. The International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) found Djordjevic guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by forces under his command in 1999. He and other Serbian officials ordered a campaign against ethnic Albanians - which included murder, deportation and other inhumane acts - in a bid to change the ethnic balance in the territory. Djordjevic was cleared of some of the crimes that he was found guilty of in 2011, resulting in his prison sentence being reduced from 27 to 18 years.
