The UAE Pakistan Assistance Programme (UAE PAP) has provided over 19.34 million doses of the polio vaccines for children in Pakistan during the months of March and April.
The gesture is in implementation to the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to provide humanitarian and development aid, support health sector and enhance preventive programmes in Pakistan, and as part of the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to eradicate polio around the world.
In 2013, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed donated AED 440 million in support of global efforts to eradicate polio by 2018, with a particular focus on Pakistan and Afghanistan.
This is the second contribution that the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi has made towards delivering life-saving vaccines to children around the world. In 2011, Sheikh Mohamed and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announced a strategic partnership offering US$100 million contribution, on a 50/50 basis, to purchase and deliver vaccines for children in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The UAE PAP Administration has extended thanks and appreciation to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for their humanitarian and generous gesture to eradicate polio and support the global efforts and the UN programmes to protect communities against dangerous epidemics and diseases.
