The Eighth United States Army said Wednesday it will hold a retirement ceremony for a Korean War veteran who worked in South Korea as a soldier and civilian employee for decades to honor his continuous service. Joseph Shepard, 82, began his service in 1947, and served from 1951-1953 as a medical supply specialist in the Japan medical depot attached to the sub medical depot and 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War. After serving in Vietnam, Alaska, and Washington D.C., he returned to South Korea in 1987. Shepard retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 1991, and served for the following 22 years in Korea as a civilian personnel for the U.S. Army. Lt. Gen. John Johnson, Eighth Army Commanding General, will host the ceremony on March 28 at the Yongsan Garrison in Seoul.
