The United States strongly condemned a recent bombing in Western Herat, Afghanistan that killed at least 16 civilians, mostly children, according to a statement released by the State department late Tuesday. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones affected by this deplorable violence," spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said in a statement. Nuland described the attack as "callous, targeted attack on innocent civilians" and an attempt to undermine peace and democracy in the war-torn country. "The United States, ISAF, and Afghan Forces will continue to put pressure on those who perpetuate this violence, and we will continue to stand with the people of Afghanistan and support their efforts toward peace, reconciliation, and a secure, stable, and prosperous nation," she added.
