US Congressional delegation gets insight into UAE parliamentary model

A US Congressional delegation today received a presentation on the evolution of the UAE parliamentary experiment during a visit to the Federal National Council (FNC). During the visit, a number of FNC members informed the US delegation about the constitutional powers, as well as legislative, supervisory and diplomatic roles of the FNC since its inception in 1972. Mechanisms of the house's work, debates on national issues under the dome, President's political empowerment programme, women engagement in political and parliamentary life were also touched during the meeting. The FNC members also spoke about the house's cooperation with the government and its support for its vision for development and progress. The UAE MPs stressed the UAE's keenness on building constructive partnerships with other countries of the world given its assets as a safe, advanced legislative environment and an attractive destination for economic, tourist and cultural sectors. The US delegation said they were impressed with the progress the UAE has achieved in various walks of life.
