A U.S. guided-missile destroyer made a port call in the southwestern coastal city of Mokpo on Friday to participate in the joint military exercise between South Korea and the U.S, KBS World Radio reported.
The Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Barry has a maximum speed of 32 knots. The eight-thousand-950-ton destroyer is equipped with the U.S. Navy’s newest Aegis Baseline 9 Combat System, which is capable of intercepting ballistic missiles and engaging in antiair warfare.
An official at the South Korean Navy’s Third Fleet Command said that the U.S. destroyer will participate in the joint drill with the Third Fleet’s warships in southern Korean waters until next Wednesday and leave the port on Sunday.
