The US listed a Daesh-affiliated group as a foreign terror organization, imposing another round of sanctions on the group.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Daesh-Khorasan announced its formation on Jan 10, 2015. It is based in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region and is mostly comprised of former members of the Afghan Taliban and Tehrik-e Teliban Pakistan, according to a statement from the U.S. State Department.
The US listing prohibits anyone from providing, attempting or conspiring to support the organization.
Daesh-Khorasan's leadership pledged allegiance to the leader of Daesh, and it has since carried out suicide bombings, small arms attacks and kidnappings in eastern Afghanistan, and it claimed responsibility for attacks in May 2015 on civilians in Karachi, Pakistan, the statement said.
The group was already under sanctions imposed in September 2015, and its emir, Hafiz Saeed, was also targeted by sanctions at the time.
