US military convoy to cross Latvia

U.S. troops with more than 40 units of military equipment are to move through Latvia on March 22 to 23 on their way from Estonia to their home station in Germany, the Latvian Defense Ministry said.
The road march, dubbed Dragoon Ride, is intended as a display of solidarity with Eastern European countries concerned about their security in light of the Ukraine crisis.
The soldiers with the U.S. Army's 2nd Cavalry Regiment, currently deployed in the Baltic States and Poland as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve, will begin the trek with 20 armored Stryker vehicles and support equipment on Saturday.
The convoy is expected to cross six countries during its 1,800 km trek.
On March 22, the soldiers and their military equipment will cross the Estonian-Latvian border in Ainazi and move on to the Latvian capital city Riga.
On March 23, they will leave Riga for the southern Latvian town of Bauska, the ministry said, adding that the convoy will be accompanied by aerial reconnaissance support.
