US plan for permanent Israeli presence rejected

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has rejected US proposals for Israel to keep troops in a future Palestinian state along its strategic border with Jordan, the Arab League said Saturday in a report which will be tackled during the emergency meeting of the Arab foreign ministers later in the day. The report is mainly related to the latest developments in the Palestinian problem and the track of the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations. Abbas handed US State Secretary John Kerry a letter on December 13 during which he signaled out "the refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state," said the report which will be handed over by the AL chief to the Arab foreign ministers. Abbas also "rejected the ideas on security because there is not a third party," added the report. This refers to a plan by former US national security adviser James Jones under which a third party would deploy along the Palestinian-Jordanian border. The pan-Arab body, meanwhile, said that the US security plan is very dangerous, as it attempts to solve the security problems at the expense of the political file.
