US support Syria's unity and territorial integrity

Washington has expressed concerns over the declaration of a constituent assembly by Syrian Kurds as a self-declared "first step" toward an interim administration in the northern parts of the war-torn country. "We are concerned over the reports on efforts to declare an autonomous Kurdish region in Syria," US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said during her daily press briefing on Wednesday. "Our policy has always been to support Syria's unity and territorial integrity," Psaki said. Psaki also welcomed the inclusion of representatives of the Kurdish National Coalition within the Syrian opposition National Coalition and its commitment to attend the Geneva conference, and saw it a positive step. The Kurdish Democratic Union Party said it plans to form a transitional administration in the Kurdish-majority areas in the northeast of Syria.
