US targets Iran in three new sanctions

The United States designated three new sanctions against the Iranian government and its affiliates, a U.S. Treasury Department statement said. The designations intensify sanctions against Iran "so long as it refuses to address in a meaningful and productive way the international community's concerns about its nuclear program," as well as its "continued abuse of human rights and support for terrorism," the statement, released Thursday, said. The actions were taken under three executive orders referring to censorship, aiding terrorists and support of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and block use of any U.S. property under control of anyone engaging in the proscribed actions, the statement said.
