The US strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in Volgograd, Russia, and urged American citizens planning to attend the Olympic games in Sochi to remain alert. State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf told reporters "we condemn in the strongest terms, the terrorist attacks in Volgograd. "We send our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and stand in solidarity with the Russian people against terrorism of any kind," she added. She stressed that "in terms of security for Sochi, US citizens planning to attend should remain alert, regarding their personal security at all times." She affirmed that "people should also be reminded that threats have been made against the Olympic games and acts of terrorism, including bombings, continue to occur in Russia. "Obviously, this is an exciting, positive, happy international sporting event, but people going there do need to maintain vigilance and watch out for their own security and safety," she remarked.
