US urges peaceful, transparent Senegal polls

The White House on Thursday called on Senegal officials and political parties to hold "free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections" at the weekend, following weeks of deadly riots. "We urge all political party leaders to lead by example (and) we also call on all Senegalese, including security forces, to exercise restraint, and refrain from any violence," President Barack Obama's spokesman said in a statement.
