US Vice President Joe Biden spoke with Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski by telephone Monday, the White House said, and the two leaders discussed Ukraine, European energy security, and bilateral relations.
“The Vice President and President Komorowski agreed that Russia and Russia-backed separatists had to fulfill all of the obligations under the Minsk agreements, including unfettered access for OSCE monitors seeking to verify the withdrawal of heavy weapons, the withdrawal of Russian troops and equipment from Ukrainian territory, and return to Ukrainian control of the international border by the end of the year. They agreed that any further escalation of the conflict by Russia would be met by increasing costs,†the statement said.
“On energy security, the leaders agreed on the importance of infrastructure projects that would help create a single, integrated energy market in Europe,†the White House said.
