President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, Tuesday sent a message of "warmest congratulations" to Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki for the adoption of the Constitution. "You got a historic victory, not only for Tunisia but for all those who struggle in the world and in your area for democracy, rights and freedoms," he said in his message. "You have demonstrated the importance of creating a consensus in the interest of the whole society, the importance of maintaining the effort and dialogue despite the many difficulties and extremism of some, and the sacrifices that mark the path to democracy," noted Van Rompuy. "On this day of joy and hope, I want you to reconfirm the friendship and support of the European Union," he added.
