Venezuela to present proofs of US destablization attempts

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Monday that a special Venezuelan commission will meet with U.S. government officials soon to present proofs that Washington's intelligence agencies are planning attacks against Caracas.

"We have proofs of how the U.S. Southern Command has placed key officials at Washington's embassy in Venezuela to carry out a plan to sabotage our economy and create violence in the country," said Maduro at a meeting of foreign ministers of the left-leaning ALBA group.

The ALBA, or Bolivarian Alliance for the People of Our Americas, is an 11-nation regional integration bloc spearheaded by the Venezuelan government.

"They (U.S) believe that these sabotage attempts against our governments will end up in coups all over the continent. They work towards destabilizing our economies, paying criminal bands and attacking the people," he added.

Maduro said the local opposition conspires with Washington in its destabilization and meddling activities and they have activated "vulture plans to bring down socialists governments" in the region.

Earlier in the day, the ALBA foreign ministers ratified their commitments to consolidate regional unity to confront destabilization attempts against the socialist governments in the continent, particularly those in Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia.

The group also highlighted the importance of preserving the continent's independence and sovereignty.

"It's the moment for reflection and a serious discussion of what is happening in our nations. There are "soft coups" planned by right-wing players in Latin America and the Caribbean following orders from the United States," said Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez.

Meanwhile, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said Havana will always back up its ALBA partners against any "aggression" from the United States regardless of the recent reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The ALBA group is made up of Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Ecuador, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.
