Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called on the country's Supreme Court on Saturday to review a decision stripping Congress of its legislative powers.
The court ruled to annul the opposition-led Congress set off a storm of criticism from the opposition and foreign governments. Maduro said in a midnight address on state television that the conflict between the Supreme Court and National Assembly had been overcome, but gave no details. He also said he had called a meeting of security chiefs to "deliberate and draw up a resolution".
The Supreme Court's decision has also been met with a torrent of international condemnation over what many have decried as a major step toward dictatorship. The Court said on Wednesday it was taking over the legislature's role because it was in "contempt" of the law. It has shot down most of the National Assembly's measures since the opposition won control in 2015.
