Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez had returned from cancer checks in Cuba, local media reported Thursday. He said the tests showed four rounds of chemotherapy had been "successful," according to the reports. Chavez began a series of medical checkups in Cuba Monday to evaluate his health status and progress of recovery from the cancer treatment. The Venezuelan leader had a malignant tumor removed from his pelvis in Cuba last June and went through four rounds of chemotherapy between July and September in Cuba and Venezuela. The 57-year-old president, who has been in power since 1999, announced earlier this year his bid for a new term in elections scheduled for October 2012. Polls in the Latin American country show he has enjoyed broad public support.
