Vietnamese PM pays state visit to Thailand

Vietnam's Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung paid a state visit to Thailand and met with his Thai counterpart Prayut Chan-o-cha at the Government House on Thursday.

The Thai and Vietnamese leaders discussed bilateral economic and trade issues as well as human resource development plans and signed varied bilateral agreements, said deputy Thai government spokesman Verachon Sukonthapatipak.

The two sides signed an agreement on the legal employment of Vietnamese nationals in Thailand following reports of tens of thousands of Vietnamese migrants being currently hired in illegal fashion at varied workplaces throughout the country.

All Vietnamese working migrants in Thailand are legally required to have the validity of their passport extended on monthly basis.

The visiting Vietnamese prime minister and the Thai leader also signed a memorandum of understanding on fraternity relationships between Thailand's Ubon Ratchathani province and Vietnam's Kontum province as well as between Thailand's Trat province and Vietnam's Long An province, the deputy spokesman said.

Besides, an unofficial meeting between Thai and Vietnamese cabinet members headed by Prayut and Nguyen Tan Dung respectively was briefly held at the Government House, he said.

Last November, the Thai prime minister paid a state visit to Vietnam during which he discussed with his Vietnamese counterpart bilateral economic and trade matters including the mutual competition in rice exports to world markets in addition to regional logistical development plans.
