A senior Iranian diplomat in Beirut said the western powers are seeking to impair the resistance front in the region through sparking unrests in Syria.ranian Ambassador to Lebanon Ghadanfar Roknabadi said that the Western campaign against Bashar al-Assad government aims "to strike a blow at one of the main pillars of support for Resistance," and are not for the purpose of implementing reforms or respecting human rights. He added that Tehran "stands by Resistance and supports its confrontation against Israeli occupiers". The Iranian ambassador also said that Iran is against any foreign interference in Syria's affairs. He reiterated Tehran's support for "the calls for reform (in Syria)." However, he added "everyone knows that the Syrian people who are demanding reforms support the ruling system." According to UN estimates, more than 3,000 people have been killed in the crackdown on Syrian protesters who have been demonstrating against the Baath regime since mid-March.
