Ukraine’s European aspirations unite authorities and opposition, President Viktor Yanukovich told a meeting with a delegation from the European Parliament’s Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. He expressed the hope that an association agreement Ukraine planned to sign with the EU in November would be ratified by the current European Parliament. “We express certain optimism that the current European Parliament will make this historic step with Ukraine,” he said, emphasising the important role of Europe’s legislative body “in relations that are being built between the EU and Ukraine of late.” “We also realise quite well that a resolution being drafted by the European Parliament should reflect its position on the signing and temporary implementation of the agreement,” Yanukovich said.
