Yemen, India hold talks in elections field

Head of the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER), Mohammed Hussein al-Hakimi reviewed on Saturday with Chief Election Commissioner of India, V. S. Sampath, sides of joint cooperation between the two friendly countries' elections commissions.The meeting was also attended by the Yemeni Ambassador to India Khadija Radman and highlighted issue of activating the memorandum of understanding which was previously signed between the commissions of elections in the two countries.The meeting also dealt with possibilities of sending a number of technicians from the SCER cadres of Yemen to be trained at the Indian Institute of Election, in order to benefit from the Indian experience in field of electronic voting.The Indian chief affirmedthe readiness of his country to offer the overall needed support for the SCER in Yemen, especially since Yemen would witness during the coming stage many of the benefits of democracy.From the other hand, al-Hakimi along with Radman has attended an expanded meeting included the Indian chief election commissioner and heads of electoral commissions of Yemen, South Africa, Moldova and Mexico.At the meeting which reviewed experiences of other countries in the electoral process, al-Hakimi briefed the heads of electoral commissions in the countries participating in this meeting on the experience of Yemen in the electoral field.Meanwhile, the SCER head and the Yemeni ambassador have participated in the annual celebration of the Election Commission of India (ECI) on the occasion of National Voters' Day (NVD).At the opening session, the vital role of elections in the Indian life and the stages reached in the field of elections in India were discussed.Al-Hakimi pointed out that respecting the will of the Indian voter and of the democratic approach in Indian makes it one of the largest democracies in the world."India annually honors in this day many of the personalities of India, who plays an important role in supporting and strengthening the path of electoral work and to promote public freedoms of the Indian voters, he said, pointing out that in this day of every year, each Indian citizen reached the legal age grants a voting card.
