
Minister of Energy and Mining Youcef Yousfi has presented Sunday the bill on mining before the deputies of People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament).The bill amending the Mining Law of 2011 aims at allowing the sector to contribute to boosting the national economy and to make of it an important source of wealth creation and foreign exchange revenues through the development of mining research.The bill also aims at creating jobs opportunities, particularly in remote and deprived areas, especially as the mining sites are located far from urbanized areas.It also defines the method for the classification of the deposits of minerals and fossils. These deposits may be classified as strategic, in accordance with their importance for the national economy.After the presentation of the bill, the Lower House’s deputies will start the debate in a plenary sessionThe vote on the mining bill is scheduled for 19 January.
