Za'atari camp director denies arrest of 'terrorists'

Za'atari Syrian refugee camp Director Brigadier Mahmoud Al-Amoush has strongly denied news reports on arresting terrorist sleeper cells in the camp and described such news reports as "completely untrue and void of truth". Speaking to Jordanian daily Ad-Destour, Brigadier Amoush said, "There is absolutely no truth in such rumours as well as talks about poor living conditions which have spread thick and fast." The camp currently has 15,627 refugees and the volume of flow into the camp per day was around 2,000 during Eid holidays, he said adding meantime that power supply to the camp has touched 60% capacity and the camp is expected to be fully lit within the next 24 hours. He also mentioned that food supplies, drinking water and medical services are now of acceptable standards and the conditions are comfortable as per international humanitarian organisations. He also said no refugees are escaping in protest as before. Work is also underway to upgrade to accommodate 3,000 new arrivals. Amoush had accompanied Jordanian Interior Minister Ghalib Al Zu'bi earlier Saturday on an inspection tour of the camp following protests by Syrian refugees of poor living conditions. The camp's Moroccan Medical Director Dr Moulay Hassan al-Tahiri said the number of patients examined at the hospital has reached 3,000 cases.
