
Six policemen were killed in a gun battle with Taliban insurgents in southern Kandahar province.
Spokesman for the governor of Kandahar province, Samim Khpalwak said that the gun battle occurred in Maiwand District late yesterday, Khaama Press reported.
He said that six policemen were killed in the gunbattle.
Khpalwak added that Taliban insurgents also suffered casualties during the exchange of fire with the security forces in the gun battle but he did not have a exact number of the Taliban killed in the gun battle.
Khpalwak also said that policemen have seized weapons and ammunition from the insurgents.
There is no immediate comment from Taliban insurgents on the report.
Maiwand District is located some 70 kilometers west of Kandahar city which also has border with the restive Hilmand Province and some other restive District in Kandahar Province.
It is has witnessed some heavy Taliban attacks.
