
Egypt welcomed on Thursday the announcement by UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed of a 72-hour truce in Yemen to let in humanitarian aid to Yemenis all over the country.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed hope that all warring sides in Yemen would abide by the truce to open the door for the resumption of political negotiations to bring about security and stability in Yemen.
He expressed Egypt's support of legitimacy in Yemen and of reaching a political solution based on the respect of all relevant UN resolutions and the Gulf initiative, saying it is the best way to reach a peaceful and permanent settlement to the Yemeni crisis.
