Cazorla: Competing directly against Real & Barcelona is impossible

The Malaga star believes that the two Champions League hopefuls are on another level, and spoke of his hopes of making the Spain squad for this summer's European Championships.Malaga midfielder Santi Cazorla has voiced his opinion that it is impossible for the other Primera Division sides to threaten Barcelona and Real Madrid.Liga leaders Madrid currently hold a 30-point lead over third-placed Valencia, while Barca are 24 points ahead of Los Che in the table.Cazorla is hopeful that clubs such as Valencia, Villarreal, Malaga and Atletico Madrid can narrow the gap in the next few years, but is adamant that the two Spanish giants are at another level right now."We have to be aware that today Real Madrid and Barcelona are on a different level and competing directly against them is practically impossible," Cazorla said to Goal Show."Hopefully in the next few years projects like the one here at Malaga, and other teams like Valencia, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid can be closer to them. It would be good for the league to be more levelled out so all teams can have similar chances."But for now the difference is very big and it's practically impossible to compete with them. Let's hope Malaga will be able to be up there in the near future."The 27-year-old then looked back on his decision to leave Villarreal for Malaga in the summer of 2011, and stated the Boquerones' ambitious plans for the future made him decide to move to the Rosaleda."The project here was very attractive for me. I saw that they wanted to build a great squad in order to compete for top honours. We've signed great players, the fans are excited about the team's potential and our first objective is to qualify for European competition."That would be the first step for the club to grow and then become more ambitious next season. That would hopefully in turn make even bigger name players look at Malaga as a strong option."The winger missed the 2010 World Cup due to injury, but is hopeful of making the Spain squad for this summer's European championship in Poland and Ukraine."I feel privileged to have had the chance to experience historical times with the national team and to form part of the great squad that we have. For me it's great to have the chance to be at Euro 2012 and for that I have to keep playing well for Malaga."I've always had Del Bosque's trust and he's always called on me, except for the World Cup because of my back injury. "Let's hope that I can be on the list. I know that competition is tough because many great footballers are fighting to be there. There's still a lot to do but I hope I make the cut."Spain will have to deal with Croatia, Italy and Republic of Ireland in the group stages of Euro 2012.
