The 38-year-old believes the difficulties that United have overcome this term would make the title that much sweeter. He cited the rise of Manchester City, coping with injuries and the fact that United brought in so many youngsters at the start of the campaign as some of the major challenges which the team has had to rise above. “[Winning the league] would be huge,” he told the Daily Mirror. “When you look at the spending power Manchester City have, the injuries we’ve had and the experience we have lost – [Paul] Scholesy for half the season, Edwin van der Sar, John O’Shea, Wes Brown. “Then the challenge we faced bringing in a new goalkeeper. David De Gea came in for a lot of criticism early on but he’s worked hard and is showing terrific form at a key time. “We’ve not had the best luck this season and we’ve had injuries to key players like Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher. A lot of credit has to go to the lads who stepped in and did a great job to get us into this position.” United opened up an eight-point gap over City at the top of the league on Sunday, but with just six games left, Giggs is refusing to take anything for granted. He continued: “Until it’s mathematically impossible for us to be caught, we won’t be counting our chickens. We never do. “We are experienced enough to know there are plenty of points to be gained and lost. We just have to keep playing and carrying that momentum because it is very hard to stop. “The key word is momentum. Whoever has momentum will win it.”
