
Eleven civilians including three children were killed on Wednesday evening during the indiscriminate shelling practiced by militants affiliated to Houthis and pro-former president Ali Abdullah Saleh on several residential areas in Taiz city, Yemen Press website quoted local sources as saying on Thursday.
A total of 29 civilians were injured in the shelling, the sources added.
Militants shelled the city with dozens of mortar shells and artillery, the sources further said.
Meanwhile, Taiz Popular Resistance Coordination Council spokesman Rashad al Sharabi said 47 militants were killed while 60 others were injured in Wednesday clashes, adding that eight members of the resistance were killed while 18 others were in injured in the same clashes that took place in Taiz city between the resistance and Houthis and pro-Saleh militants.
Yemen has been rocked by months of fighting between the Houthis and loyalists of Yemeni President Abdrabu Mansur Hadi, supported by the Arab coalition, leaving thousands dead and 21 million people in need of urgent aid.
