
The Saudi Interior Ministry said on Sunday it has caught a total of 135 terrorism suspects for repeatedly attempting to undermine national security and stability.
All the terrorism suspects are from Saudi Arabia except for 26 suspects who are from Syria, Yemen, Egypt, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Bahrain and Iraq, it said in a press statement.
Out of this figure, forty detainees were arrested in different parts of the Kingdom for their involvement in going to conflict areas, joining extremist organizations, training on weapons and terrorist acts, and returning home to carry out acts to destabilize security, according to the statement, carried by Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Fifty-four detainees were arrested in different parts of the Kingdom for their association with extremist organizations and their roles varied in various forms of support to those organizations including funding, recruitment, Ifta (religious edict), dissemination of misguided propaganda, provocative clips, harboring the wanted and manufacturing explosives and others, it said.
Seventeen detainees were arrested for their connection with riots, mob gatherings and shooting at security forces in the town of Awwamiyya, possession and smuggling of arms, planning to carry out acts to destabilize security, and their association with external loyalties, it added.
Three detainees were arrested in Qatif Governorate for seeking to recruit elements in order to send them abroad, train and equip them, and then return to carry out terrorist operations inside the Kingdom.
Finally, twenty-one detainees were involved in an attempt to enter and go out from the Kingdom in an irregular manner and carry out the smuggling of weapons, it pointed out.
