Head of the Cairo Court of Appeals Ayman Abbas Wednesday set June 6 as the first session in the trial of two police officers in the case of torturing to death a lawyer inside Mataria police station.
He ordered that the North Cairo Criminal Court continues to handle the case.
Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat had referred the two defendants to the Criminal Court for torturing the victim to death while being held in custody at Mataria police station to force him to confess crimes they believed he had committed for the sake of the Muslim Brotherhood. The victim sustained serious injuries that led to his death as stated in a forensic report.
The police officers are facing charges of torture to death.
