Around 21 terrorists were killed in armed clashes with security forces that followed a militant attack on a military barracks in Ben Gardane area near the borders with Libya on Monday, according to a joint statement by the defense and interior ministries.
Four citizens were killed in the clashes.
Security forces arrested six terrorists and a manhunt was launched to arrest the others.
Army units have managed earlier in the day to repulse simultaneous attacks by militants on army barracks and national guards with heavy weaponry, including rocket-propelled grenades.
All entrances and exits of the area were sealed off with army jets hovering over.
Locals were urged by the authorities to stay indoor and to report any suspicious activity.
The army also closed Ras Ajdir border crossing with Libya.
